New things lead to...well...new things!

Eddyper with Zenith
Trying new tangles and updating some of my instruction cards. I'm listing names with links. Check them out!
Land Girlz and Oybay I've played with recently and decided I needed instruction cards. Garlande seemed like fun and as I was trying it out it felt familiar, what was it?? Yes, it reminded me of Akoya, which I really enjoy but realized I had never made a card for it.
I also tried KT recently in my mandala. I know it wants to take me somewhere else, I just haven't let it yet. Viaduct was fun.
And then checking out tanglepatterns for more, I found Eddyper. So pretty!
Sometimes tho instead of learning a new tangle, you just need to go back to a tried and true and have a go from a different perspective, or add just a little twist! I just love Orlique. (Sorry no online instructions, but its not hard....find a CZT for instruction if you're having difficulty.)
Then it's back to a new tangle AND twisting up the old favorites! Here I was trying out Andante and then the tangle morphing just took over. Notice any of your favorites morphing into anything else? And of course Bijou was there to encourage me on! It also helped that I had a pen skipping towards the end of its life!
And now I have another new tangle to try, and a new blog to watch. Check out Naaki. Doesn't it look like fun? I found Nadine through Zentangle's ® new app, Mosaic. Ah, yes, another thing for you to try!
Yeah! I had a chance to try out Naaki before this posted....

Touch of Irish

I'm posting a day early today in honor of my Irish heritage. The Diva's challenge this week is to add a touch of Irish to your tile. Tangles are Fleavy, Flux and Skwim.
I liked this analogous color combo so much, I decided to make note of it in my art journal.
Bijou waiting.
Which led to this. I haven't named many of my pieces, but this one named itself long before it was finished.....Bijou waiting.
This ATC has already found a good home.

Top 'O the mornin' to ya!

Beginnings

I had an introduction to Zentangle® class recently. My students took off and ran with it! And look at that shading! So good for beginners! Small classes allow for more one-on-one time however, being more personal, I tend to get side tracked easily. This time I forgot to take a photograph of their tiles! But this allowed for students to complete tiles at home. Here are photos that have made their way back to me intending to be shared with you.
Welcome to an awesome community...Zentangle!

Metal plus a bit of tangling

Amy Broady is the guest post for The Diva's weekly challenge #257. The challenge was to include a metallic feature in your tangled art. If you didn't see the challenge, check out her example...it's gorgeous!
I've been playing with my Copic markers a lot lately (check out my last two mandalas here and here) and thought I'd have a go at imitating metal with the markers. To achieve this look, I blended 4 different cool grays along with the colorless blender. At least until I ran out of one marker, Yikes! So one side is blended more smoothly than the other, but the striping actually helps with the illusion. I had intended to tangle in the cylinder but once colored, I thought it best to excercise the Less is More motto. I think it's just right with Bijou and just the corner of my tangle Skwim. This is the perfect size for an A2 card front, if I can ever part with it!

I sketched out the cylinder in pencil on Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock from Crafter's Companion before committing to ink. Today, all the ink used was Copic brand, including using multiliners in cool gray and olive. All the shading is done with markers, no graphite shading today.

If you're in the Vancouver, Washington USA area and are interested in learning the Zentangle® method, check out the "Take a Class!" tab above as I have openings in this Sunday's class!

Have a great week!
