You can tangle with that?...on that?

So tangling on a card background isn't new for me, however tangling with stamping ink is. This was done with Tsukineko Momento ink. It comes in both pad and pen form. The pen is pretty convenient as it has a brush tip and a fairly fine nib as well. I tangled Cadent using the fine. The stamped image is from Stampin Up also using Momento ink. For more examples of cards, check out the card label to the right.
I also tangled on this welding shield. I wouldn't even have known what it was except that my hubby asked me if I'd tangle it for a buddy of his. He sprayed it with primer, shown here, and I tangled with a Sakura IDenti-pen, then shaded with a gray Fabrico marker by Tsukineko. Next it needs a protective coating.  It was a strange surface to draw on. I prefer the paper mâché mask I did back at Halloween. Although it was also curved the paper mâché had a more organic and nicer feel. Or maybe it's just been long enough ago that I don't remember how uncomfortable it was!
Saving the best for last... I have a new set of Sakura Koi brush markers. It took me a few different papers to find one that blended well. This is done on 100 lb Bristol smooth. I am on a Cadent bender, literally ;-). I'm working on a Cadent post for next week so stay tuned!

Lichen and wood

My contribution to The Weekend in Black and White.

Student connections

This last class we spent an hour plus working on connections using familiar tangles. We also learned or emphasized different techniques and tangle enhancers with new tangles using Bijoux. Unfortunately I forgot to get a photo of those.

I am only planning one class in March so watch the "Classes!" tab for that information.

Student mosaic

Another introduction class last Sunday. For some students it was a refresher. I had fun. Can you tell that they did too? Awesome lines!

Valentangle!

This is the prototype 3D Valentine for my ZIA (Zentangle® Inspired Art) class. I cut red and white die cuts using the Sizzix 3D Heart Card designed by Karen Burniston. We tangled last week's Diva Challenge (#203) tangle, Athitzi by Seven and the Zentangle pattern, 'Nzeppel. Nice of The Diva to make Valentangle this week's challenge (#204). This second photo was taken pre-assembly. I only had 3 students so I included my "tile" as well.  I'm proud to say you can't tell my tile from my students'!

Athitzi background tag

Tags are great to have on your stamping work surface. You can always print a second image on one, clean off your stamp, or just get it inky instead of scrap paper. Maybe you can use it for a later project! Best of all, they are inexpensive. So if it's just a mess, no big deal.
The pears are a stamped image from A Stamp in the Hand called Pear Border #2. I tangled the pattern Athitzi, by Seven, in brown Sakura Micron and added lots of layers of colored pencil and Ranger Distress inks and alcohol inks. This is my second Athitzi contribution for The Diva Challenge #203. Be sure to check out the other interpretations!

It IS magic!

If you remember my post from last week, I had tried out Dorian Eng's video tutorial for making boxes from Zendalas. Although they were lovely boxes, I was having trouble with the boxes popping open because I was using paper that was just too stiff. I ended up tying them with ribbon. Why, you ask, didn't you just use the Zendalas from Zentangle? Well, good question, and I don't have a good answer except to say I was down to my last few zendalas and I needed two to make a box. I guess I was just hoarding those last few. But, I was ignoring a Zentangle rule, and my own instructions to students: Use the best quality material you have available to you! You are worth it and your artwork is worth it! While trying to figure out why the boxes were popping open, one commenter suggested it was the fabric like quality of the zendala tile...or maybe it was just magic! Enyshou it's magic!

Athitzi

I'm awaiting approval of my class schedule for February with New Seasons. I hope to have a Valentine's themed class, so I'm a little anxious to get the approval so I can let the students know. Perfect time for a little Zen. I really like this tangle pattern, Athitzi, by Seven. I've added Printemps. Check out the other contributions to The Diva's Challenge # 203.
